Conservative Sarkozy Wins Presidency of France

President SarkozyNicolas Sarkozy, an immigrant’s son, won a decisive victory in the French election. Mr. Sarkozy, the conservative former interior minister, won 53.3 percent of the very high 85 percent turnout of France’s 44.5 million registered voters. Keeping in mind that Mr. Sarkozy is an immigrant’s son I thought the following quote was quite appropriate. Quoting Mr. Sarkozy, “I love France as one loves a dear being. Now it is time for me to give back to France what it has given me.” Sarkozy is seen as a divisive figure for his demand that immigrants learn Western values (and the French language). Imagine being thought of as divisive for being so impudent as to expect that immigrants who France graciously allowed into their country and bestowed upon all the rights of a French citizen insist that they in return learn to behave like French citizens and take on all the responsibilities that French citizens are expected to. The sheer gall! He has also promised to clamp down on illegal immigration, something our own President seems unable to do. As I write this post the same young thugs and hooligans who put France to the torch for three weeks in protest of being expected to behave like responsible French citizens are at it again. It appears they don’t like the idea of actually having to give back to France for all that France has given them. They want a free ride, to be able to enjoy all the rights of a French citizen without any of the obligations. President Sarkozy (I should start calling him that) has my support and I hope he will be able to serve all the people of France equally while still expecting all the people of France (including the immigrants) to be equally beholding to France for all that she has done for them. Viva La France!
