Are you doing enough?

I often find myself analyzing my life. I ask myself if I am living a good life. By good I don’t mean do I have the latest plasma TV or the newest SUV. I mean am I living a life that is worth living. Do I spend enough time with my family? Do I call my mother often enough as well as my now 30 year old son? Am I giving time to community service and to my church? Am I following a life that I would not be ashamed of defending to myself, my friends, my family, and my God? Do I give 100 percent to my job? You know the questions, I am sure you ask them about yourself as often as I do. And what is your answer to these questions? Are you satified with the answers you provide? Do you feel that your life has meaning, value, and is lived with helping others at every opportunity in mind? I know that my answers are never adequate. I know that there is always more that I could be doing. I seem to always fall short of the goals that I have set. My intentions and my actions never seem to quite meet. But that does not stop me from trying. I recently volunteered to assist my local Red Cross chapter with their web site. I do social outreach at my church. I try to put 100 percent into my job. I give generously to charity. But every time I go to church and listen to the sermon I know that there is more that I could be doing.

I have so much in my life that is good and I know that there are many that are not as fortunate as myself. I make a conscious effort every day to improve myself in some way and to help others less fortunate. I hope I will never stop trying to do better. I will never be satisfied that I am doing all the right things and that I cannot do more. I hope you feel the same way. A famous religious leader once said that the most important thing you can do in your life is to ease the suffering of others. If everyone kept that idea in mind as they went on their daily lives wouldn’t the world be a much better place? I think so.
