Les Stroud vs Bear Grylls
I am a great fan of both Survivorman, starring Les Stroud and Man vs Wild, starring Bear Grylls. I Tivo both programs and watch every episode. Both shows have survival tips and techniques which I think would be very useful to anyone who spends a lot of time outdoors. As I love to backpack, canoe, and travel to remote areas for vacation, some of this knowledge may come in handy some day. A perfect example is my upcoming vacation to the Mojave National Preserve in California. I plan on driving a well equipped SUV and have researched the area and will have maps, but you never know what might happen in a place like that. Of the two shows, I prefer Survivorman over Man vs Wild. I think the reason is that Les Stroud is truly on his own for seven days while Bear Grylls always has a camera crew with him. Isolation is one of the hardest things to overcome in a survival situation so I think what Les Stroud goes through is much more challenging that what Bear Grylls does. I know both of them are not idiots and both have backup plans in case something really goes wrong. (Satellite phones, etc.) Some of the advice that Bear Grylls gives is sometimes a little extreme while the survival tips of Les Stroud are more what I expect I could actually use. Anyway, I am going to ask you all to tell me which show you like the best and the reasons for your choice. If you were dropped into the Amazon who would you like to be by your side? Leave me some comments.
