Invisibility, force fields and lightsabers, oh my!

By • on March 15, 2008

Professor Michio Kaku, a professor of theoretical physics at the Graduate Center of the City University of New York has authored a new book titled ‘Physics of the Impossible.’ Professor Kaku, the co-founder of string field theory and who has my vote as the successor to Carl Sagan, explores the physics behind three theoretical technologies that he says fall within the realm of possibility. The three technologies are invisibility, force fields and laser guns and lightsabers. Professor Kaku often appears on the Discovery channel and the Science channel and like Carl Sagan has the ability to explain complex technical matters in a manner that is understandable by the lay person. To read more on Professor Kaku’s insights into these three technologies read the New York Times article. It makes for fascinating reading.
