Sustainable Living Project Kit for Kids

I found this really cool “Power House” kit for children twelve and up. It is designed to teach about the benefits of intelligent and environmentally-friendly housing. For $130 the kit includes everything you need to build the frame of a simple house, complete with a motor and electric train that can be powered by solar cells or a windmill. This kit reminds me of the kits I used to get for Christmas as a child. I was really into science and I loved the chemistry, biology, electronic, and geology kits that I received over the years. Kits like this are what steered me to my current passion for science and my job in the technology field. Sadly, today there are few kits of this type available for children. Chemistry kits are almost impossible to get due to post 9/11 restrictions on the sale of almost all chemicals. I still have fond memories of having the fire department show up at my house after one of my chemistry experiments took an unexpected turn. So it is heartening to see science related kits being made available for children again. I think time spent exploring the wonders of science through a kit like this is time better spent than time spent playing with an Xbox or a Wii. Just don’t hate me for saying that.
