Social media and my WordPress blog.
I just found out today that a lot of my images in my WordPress blog are broken. It seems that when I moved from my old hosting service to GoDaddy a lot of the permalinks for my images still pointed to my old domain mtefft.org. I thought I had corrected all the references to my old domain but obviously I was wrong. I tried to find an easy way to make all the necessary changes but it looks like I am going to have to manually correct several hundred posts. Ouch! I figure if I take a month or two’s worth of entries a day it should not be too onerous a task.
On another note I have been using two social media tools a lot lately. I first started to use Twitter to post short blog posts and communicate with other people. I have had many interesting conversations with people from all over the world using Twitter. It is a great way to converse in short (140 character) conversations about any topic. I have found Twitter to be very addictive and it has occupied a significant portion of my daily online time. When Twitter started having reliability issues and was down more than it was up a lot of people started to migrate to FriendFeed. FriendFeed is sort of like Twitter on steroids. You can carry on the same types of conversation as on Twitter but you do not have a 140 character limit. It is also somewhat easier to follow a conversation as you can comment on postings and follow the comments in a forum like manner. You can also import content from other social media applications like YouTube, Vimeo, Flickr and other media applications. You can also incorporate your Twitter comments into FriendFeed so that if you comment on Twitter your comments are posted on FriendFeed and vice versa.
I have found that I am spending just a little bit too much time on Twitter and FriendFeed, to the detriment of other daily activities like reading, getting outdoors, yard work, etc. Maybe the allure of Twitter and FriendFeed will fade after a while but there is always a new social media application waiting in the wings. I will just have to show some restraint. I know I can do it, I know I can.

Twitter, FriendFeed, Plurk, Identi.ca, Pownce, BrightKite… the list goes on and on.
I converse on Twitter, but have accounts on all the above. I also use Ping.fm to post to all the social media sites at one time. That’s real handy for announcements. Like blog posts and such.

I forgot that I have a Ping.fm account but I have not checked out Plurk and Identi.ca although I have seen a lot of discussion about them.

I admire your desire to do the right thing. I will keep you in my prayers that you will have better results than I have had.

You are right Paul. I think I do need your prayers. Twitter and FriendFeed are the crack of the Internet.
